Fears of British super-drought after record low rainfall in winter | Environment | The Observer
This problem is one that people continue to ignore for some reason. We are a small island with few major rivers and an unquenchable thirst. Most of the population lives in the south-east which is least well off for water resources. The population is rising far too much, and per person consumption is too high. We are heading for an environmental catastrophe but ignore it because it makes us uncomfortable to think about the fragility of our world which seems so solid… but it is a world which is precarious. It may not take much to bring down our sophisticated world!
