BBC News – Arctic Ocean freshwater bulge detected

23 January 2012

BBC News – Arctic Ocean freshwater bulge detected.

There is a lot of freshwater from increased arctic river runoff sloshing around in the Arctic Ocean it seems, according to satellite data. “What we seen occurring is precisely what the climate models had predicted,” says Katharine Giles of UCL’s Centre for Polar Observation and Modelling (CPOM)

If this water enters the North Atlantic this could well have noticeable effects on our North European weather.
